About the Author Hilary McKay won The Guardian Children's Fiction Award for her first novel, THE EXILES - and its sequel, THE EXILES AT HOME was the winner of the prestigious Smarties Book Prize - for which DOG FRIDAY was also shortlisted. Her success has continued with SAFFY'S ANGEL - winner of the Children's Whitbread Prize for 2002, for which INDIGO’S STAR was also shortlisted. SAFFY’S ANGEL was selected for 2007’s inaugural Booked Up list of 12 children’s titles to be available free to every Year 7 school child in the UK. Hilary’s novels are now in 20 languages and her latest book is the acclaimed seaside adventure, BINNY FOR SHORT. Hilary’s story telling has a bouncy enthusiasm and children love her crazy humour. She studied botany and zoology at St. Andrews University and has lived in Cumbria and then Derbyshire, where she completed her first two novels whilst working as an analytical chemist. Hilary is married with two children and writes full-time.
