Product Description The topic feminist research has too often been neglected in standard research methods books. The Handbook of Feminist Research represents the establishment of a new tradition or paradigm in viewing how the research process is implemented. Feminist researchers bring unique epistemological and methodological perspectives to the research process. Feminists′ approach to methodology allows for `new′ types of questions about women′s lives and those of `other/ed′ marginalized groups to be addressed within their respective fields of research. This Handbook stresses the interconnections between epistemology, methodology and methods. They are not de-linked from each other but work together in dynamic ways to produce new knowledge and this openness itself is also characteristic of how feminist researchers approach their work. Feminists engage synergistically with all three aspects of the research process - epistemology, methodology and method. Through a synergistic connection between these elements of research: epistemology; methodology; and method, we find that feminist research often shapes new research endeavors that are greater than `the sum of their parts′. In other words, while traditional research employs these components of research, the synergistic engagement of these components in feminist research questions the status quo, aiming to raise our consciousness about how we do research. Looking at the selections provided in this Handbook we are able to look at feminist research, its implementation of synergistic use of epistemology, methodology and method, and the resulting qualities of feminist research in practice. Review "Feminist researchers describe the process, its connections, and its range of approaches - many of which have resulted in cutting - edge breakthroughs in the research community. Issues of race, class, geography, and more are surveyed in chapters that cover such research around the world, while future trends are analyzed. College-level libraries strong in women′s studies or social science can′t afford to be without this in-depth set of articles for students and scholars at the graduate level." -- Midwest Book Review ― California Bookwatch Published On: 2007-02-12 "This comprehensive edited volume is an important contribution to feminist scholarship. It integrates a wide range of theoretical, empirical, and practical material to provide an interdisciplinary review of classic and contemporary feminist theory, as well as an invaluable guide to help scholars construct their own research agendas. Among the volume′s most significant contributions is the successful explanation of what makes research "feminist" through the use of inclusive definitions and emphasis on both the synergies and tensions in the relationships between feminist activism and scholarship. Very useful as a reference for students or as a text in research methods. Highly recommended." -- R. V. Kutz-Flamenbaum Published On: 2007-03-20 "Let me begin by recommending this book to anyone engaged in feminist research, as a contributor or a student of the field. It is superbly written, organized with amazing grace, highly inclusive of diverse research activities, and includes of some of the most well-known feminist scholars in a range of academic disciplines. This is a truly amazing handbook a huge enterprise, elegantly crafted by editor-author, Sharlene Nagy Hesse-Biber and completed by 52 other authors. The handbook is an outstanding contribution to feminist research, but beyond that, an excellent resource for students at all levels of inquiry and professional identification. There is nothing else to compete with its inclusiveness and intellectual prowess." ―JOURNAL OF PHENOMENOLOGICAL PSYCHOLOGY -- Journal of Phenomenological Psychology ― Journal of Phenomenological Psychology Published On: 2007-12-16 About the Author Sharlene Nagy Hesse-Biber (PhD, University of Michigan) is Professor of Sociology and Director of the Women’s S
