Review
“I like it a lot. It does something that fewer and fewer picture books seem to do just at the moment – it tells a short story and isn’t afraid to use as many words as are necessary for the telling. It helps that Mole is a poet, so he uses words atmospherically. The illustrations from Chinese artist Oamul Lu support the atmosphere with real charm.” ― Achuka Magazine
This deceptively simple tale of a boy, new to the neighbourhood, trying to join in with those around him, will charm, engage and prompt deep thinking in young readers. .. children will appreciate the important message of this utterly delightful story. ― Just Imagine
The Editor’s Choice with a 5 star review - an enjoyable story told with a richness of language and illustration that combine to make a truly satisfying whole. ― Books For Keeps
Kites is a beautiful story about having the courage to stay true to yourself and what you believe in and in doing this, the best kind of friendships will grow. The text is gentle, poetic and yet powerful in its ability to draw you in to this young boy's plight; feeling his sadness in his new surroundings. The illustrations are gorgeous and the perfect accompaniment for its intended age range.
― Reading Zone
A truly visually stunning, with a heartwarming story of friendship …A book that feels like a breath of fresh air, soaring on strong breezes to work its way into your heart, utterly gorgeous stuff!

Product Description
The day that David moved to Fivehills,
The first thing he noticed was the kites.
Little kites, big kites
Eagle kites, pig kites
Golden Frog kites with car headlights for eyes
Mirror kites singing the sky back at itself…
David knows that to fit in at Fivehills, he needs a kite. But when he makes one, the other kids of the town aren’t too impressed. They say it needs this, then it needs that, then it needs something else… soon David’s kite doesn’t feel like his any more. But David remembers what his Grandpa said – “Let’s see what we’ve already got. More often than not, we’ll find the answer inside” and learns that when you’re happy with yourself, friends will follow.
